Leading Chinese scholar moves south to escape Beijing’s ‘suffocating’ smog

A leading Chinese media scholar currently living and working in Beijing has decided to move to southern China away from the “suffocating” smog in the country’s capital, mainland media reports.

Yu Guoming, associate dean of journalism at the Renmin University in Beijing, who has taught at the university for 37 years, will soon take up a post at Jinan University in Guangzhou, Southern Metropolis News reported on Tuesday.

Yu confirmed speculation concerning his move on his weibo social media account on Monday.

In the post, Yu wrote: “People keep on asking me: is it true?

“My answer is: Yes it is true. Then they ask: Why? My answer is: Beijing’s smog.”
