Doctors in southern China successfully separate month-old conjoined brothers attached at chest and liver in 3-hour operation

Conjoined male twins were successfully separated in an operation in southern China on Monday, China News Service reported.

The twins, who were connected at the abdomen and shared a liver, were born in January to an 18-year-old woman in Duchang county, Jiangxi province.

Surgeons at the Jiangxi Provincial Children’s Hospital conducted the three-and-a-half-hour operation.

The twins were in stable condition and were expected to make a full recovery, the report said.

The twin brothers were delivered by Caesarian section after they were diagnosed as conjoined.

They weighed 4.1kg at birth and the operation was considered high risk.

The boys were kept in an incubator in intensive care from birth.

It was the third such operation carried out in the hospital.
