Small animals and birds have been stuffed into tight cages in the blazing sun and used as targets in ring games in a park in Southwest China, the Huaxi Metropolis Daily reported on Tuesday.

Live rabbits, turtles, birds and ducks were kept in small cages with stones on the top and made targets of a ring game organised by a man in a park in Guanghan, Sichuan province.

The report said there were more than 20 cages on the ground, many of them too small for larger animals such as the rabbits.

One picture showed a rabbit’s fur bulging out of the cage.

It was unclear how and where the game organiser obtained the animals.

Some park goers said the animals sat motionless under the sun.

In China, participants normally pay showmen to play the games to win prizes if the rings fall on certain targets.
