A man in Shanghai has swallowed a 15cm length of steel wire after bickering with his wife, mainland media reported.

It was not clear how the patient, 36, swallowed the object, but doctors successfully removed it with endoscopic surgery.

The man, surnamed Qi, only went to the hospital the following day when he felt unbearable pain in his stomach, according to Thepaper.cn, a Shanghai-based news website.

Doctors using an endoscope saw that one end of the wire was stuck in the wall of his stomach while the other end had entered his duodenum.
