Chinese bride-to-be delays wedding after severe allergic reaction to make-up on pre-ceremony photo shoot

A Chinese woman has had to delay her wedding after she suffered a severe allergic reaction to make-up during a pre-ceremony photo shoot, mainland media reports.

The woman from the city of Shenyang, in Liaoning province, woke up the morning after January’s photo shoot to find her face red and swollen and covered in blisters, Shenyang Evening News reported on Thursday.

She had used make-up provided by the photographic studio carrying out the photo shoot and was diagnosed with dermatitis.

The woman, identified only as Xiaojiao, has already spent nearly 10,000 yuan (HK$12,000) on treatment, but the problem has failed to clear up.

She has now demanded 50,000 yuan compensation from the photo studio.

Xiaojiao told the newspaper she had now been forced to call off her wedding, which had been scheduled for May 20, because she still needed treatment for her skin condition.

She visited the photo studio to take the pre-wedding photographs on January 24. Staff provided the make-up products she wore during the photo shoot.

Xiaojiao said the next morning she woke up to find her face badly swollen and covered in blisters.

She then returned to the studio, where staff took her to the local hospital. Doctors identified her symptoms as an allergic reaction to the make-up she had been given, the report said.

The studio promised to pay 3,000 yuan to cover the cost of her treatment that day.

However, Xiaojiao said she had spent nearly 10,000 yuan on trying to solve the problem without success. She added that she had also put on extra weight because of the drugs she has been taking as part of her treatment.

Xiaojiao said she had demanded the compensation after the studio refused to pay any more money to cover the cost of her treatment.

The studio told the newspaper that it was still negotiating with Xiaojiao over the level of the compensation.
