Air China pilot’s live broadcasts from cockpit during flights attract 64,000 followers

State-run airline says behaviour of unnamed employee, apparently wearing uniform of assistant pilot, breaks company’s safety regulations

A Chinese airline pilot has attracted more than 64,000 followers by filming and broadcasting live social media feeds from the cockpit while on numerous international flights, mainland media reports.

Recent images captured from live video feeds by users of Weibo.com show an unnamed Air China pilot, wearing the epaulettes of an assistant pilot on his uniform, filming with his iPad while flying from a Chinese airport to the Italian capital, Rome, on Thursday, The Beijing News reported on Thursday.

The state-owned airline confirmed on Thursday that such behaviour was in breach of the company’s safety regulations and that the person involved would face a severe punishment, the newspaper reported.

The young pilot had attracted more than 64,000 followers after posting a large number of selfies and live broadcasts while on flights, the newspaper said.

Many fans had expressed an interest in the pilot’s handsome looks and sent him virtual gifts.
