The family of a Chinese boy of 12 found dying with a blindfold over his eyes while on his way to school have rejected claims by local officials that he was killed after leaping from the seventh floor of a building, mainland media reports.
The parents of Wang Fangyuan have called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
The boy was found lying in the road leading to his primary school in the southern city of Guangzhou, in Guangdong province, on Tuesday, the Information Times reported.
He was already dead by the time an ambulance arrived at the scene, the newspaper said on Wednesday.
A police investigation said an autopsy had found that the student died “after falling seven storeys to his death” from a building.
However, the boy’s family disputes these findings.
The boy’s father said when he arrived at the scene he had seen his son’s face wrapped tightly in the red scarf, and noticed that his backpack was missing.
Beside the boy was a bottle of milk, which the father said his son could not have afforded to buy by himself.
“There was just a little blood on his teeth and a few bruises on his back, but no other apparent injuries,”one of boy’s relatives told the Guangzhou-based newspaper.
It is believed the boy was quite familiar with the area where he died because it was right next to his mother’s place of work and his uncle’s garment factory.
The boy’s father said his son was helpful and had been a quiet student. He said the boy would not have told his parents if he was being bullied at school.
His teachers told the newspaper that they had noticed nothing unusual about the boy’s behaviour before his death.
