Outcry after film shows motorist in Beijing repeatedly slapping tricycle delivery man for scratching his car
Video footage of a motorist repeatedly slapping and insulting a delivery man after he scratched the driver’s car with his electric tricycle in Beijing has gone viral on the internet in China, a newspaper reported.
The video has been viewed more than eight million times and drawn over 54,000 comments on Weibo, China’s equivalent of Twitter. Many strongly criticised the motorist.

The driver is seen slapping the courier six times in a residential area of the Dongcheng district of the capital, even though the delivery man had apologised for the minor collision, The Beijing News reported.
The 57-year-old car owner, whose full name was not given in the report, is seen jumping out of his vehicle after the accident, slapping the young man and hurling expletives at him.
Onlookers try to pull the angry man away and ask him to calm down.
The man, who the newspaper report said works a chauffeur, continued to insult and attack the courier.
“Is it enough for you just to say sorry?” he yelled.
The delivery man hid behind a member of the public attempting to mediate in the conflict.
The courier paid the driver 400 yuan (HK$480) in compensation after the police arrived, a manager for his company told the newspaper.
The motorist was later arrested by the police, the report said.
The car owner’s behaviour has generated outrage among members of public and the delivery driver’s employer was also incensed.

“The majority of our couriers are in their 20s. They travel across the neighbourhood to serve their clients with smiles, no matter how bad the weather is,” a statement issued by Shunfeng Express on social media said. “We are going to take good care of the kid who was hit.”
The courier told state television he did not defend himself because he wanted to deliver his parcels on time.
