People living in a residential area in northern China have complained of finding small worms in their tap water, according to a newspaper report.

The tiny animals were found by several homeowners living in 13 high-rise buildings in Shijiazhuang in Hebei province, the Yanzhao Evening News reported.

The buildings’ water is obtained from a well sunk by the developer, according to the article.

Residents were quoted as saying that the worms only appeared recently.

“I never noticed them before, but these days I see worms once in a while: some long, some short, some red and some white,” one resident said. “I feel sick when I think of the fact that I am using this water to cook my meals.”

Some families have used wet tissues to cover their taps to act as a sieve, the report said.
