Woman threatening to jump from high-rise in China saved in daring, Mission Impossible-style rescue

Emergency service officers made a daring rescue of a distraught woman threatening to leap from a residential building in eastern China last week, state media reported.

The woman was sitting on a window ledge on the fifth floor of the building in Xuzhou, Jiangsu province, holding rat poison and visibly upset last Wednesday, according to China National Radio.

Rescuers were alerted and entered her flat to try to talk her away from the window. While she was distracted, another officer was lowered down by rope from the storey above, and swooped down to safely kick her into back into the flat, where she was subdued.

It was not immediately clear why she wanted to kill herself.
