Would-be cop also bought equipment including police vest and baton, according to newspaper report

An 18-year-old man from southwest China bought a fake police uniform and posed as a police cadet to try to gain the respect of his friends, according to a newspaper report.
The man also had a fake police identification card and other equipment including a police vest and baton, the Chongqing Evening News reported.

The man from Chongqing has been criticised for his actions, but does not face criminal detention, according to the article.
The newspaper reported that the young man felt embarrassed for not continuing to study after high school while most of his friends were receiving higher education.
After watching many crime films, he thought “it would be cool to become a policeman”, so he spent about 800 yuan (HK$955) buying a full set of police equipment online. The seller even helped fabricate a police ID card with the young man’s photograph, the article said.
He then told his friends he was receiving training as an intern police officer.
