A man from southwest China who pledged to steal one million yuan (HK$1.2 million) worth of goods in a year has been arrested, according to a news website report.

The 30-year-old man was caught after breaking into an apartment in a gated community in Chongqing and taking 10,000 yuan worth of jewellery with an accomplice last week, the Chongqing Evening News reported.

When police caught the man in his rented room last Friday, they were surprised to find he had made a stealing plan and stuck it to his wall.

He planned to steal one million yuan last year, according to the article.

He also told himself only to spend 30 yuan to 50 yuan a day and live frugally.
