Chinese thief who pledged to steal a million yuan in a year nabbed by police

A man from southwest China who pledged to steal one million yuan (HK$1.2 million) worth of goods in a year has been arrested, according to a news website report.

The 30-year-old man was caught after breaking into an apartment in a gated community in Chongqing and taking 10,000 yuan worth of jewellery with an accomplice last week, the Chongqing Evening News reported.

He planned to steal one million yuan last year, according to the article.

He also told himself only to spend 30 yuan to 50 yuan a day and live frugally.

The plan also included a pledge to buy his brother a house and car, the report said.

The police investigation is continuing.
