An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 struck in northeastern Taiwan on Tuesday afternoon.
The quake occurred 73.1km off the island's Keelung city at 1.23pm, Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau said.
It originated from the sea, at a 271.3km depth, and was felt most intensely in the northeastern Yilan county as well as parts of eastern Hualien county, the Central News Agency reported.

Tremors were also reported in parts of Taipei, New Taipei and Taoyuan cities as well as Hsinchu and Miaoli counties, the report said.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
Taipei metro said services were running as normal.
