A Chinese PhD student has proposed to his girlfriend with a mock academic research paper scientifically weighing up the pros and cons of marrying her, a newspaper reported.
The 8,000-word “project application”was entitled “A study of issues in establishing a relationship and married life with Ms Zhang Su”, the Yangtse Evening Post reported.

It was written by Liu Xinjie who is studying mapping and geographic information at the China Academy of Sciences, the paper said.

Applying to a hypothetical “domestic social sciences research fund”, Liu reviewed “background research”, analysed “outstanding problems”, suggested “proposed solutions”, and sought “expert references” in videos shot of married PhD couples.
