A woman in southern China is preparing to give birth to a baby boy after embryos frozen for 12 years were implanted in her body, according to a newspaper report.

The age of the embryo that was successfully implanted has created a medical record in China, the Southern Metropolis News reported.

The mother, who is 45 and was not named, comes from Guangzhou in Guangdong province, according to the article.

She had embryos frozen while she received IVF treatment and gave birth to a boy in 2004.

She decided to have a second baby after the one-child policy was scrapped in China last year.
