A Chinese “Good Samaritan” has been widely praised on mainland social media after using his paddleboard to rescue more than 10 women and children who became stranded in a bus during heavy floods, mainland media reports.

Telecom worker Deng Wei, who is a member of local mountain rescue team in Yibin, in Sichuan province, used the paddleboard he keeps in his office to ferry the passengers to safety after heavy rains left the bus and its occupants stuck in water up to one metre deep in Jinshajiang Avenue, in the city, on Thursday night, Chengdu Economic Daily reported.

Netizens nicknamed Deng “Rowing Brother” and praised his actions after news of his heroics was circulated on Sina Weibo – the mainland equivalent of Twitter – and then widely reported by mainland media.
