Chinese woman survives after pair of pliers falls from building and pierces her skull

Grandmother in intensive care in Sichuan province, according to newspaper report

A woman in southwest China survived after a pair of pliers pierced her skull after they fell from a high-rise building, according to a newspaper report.

Wang Youfang, 58, was taking her granddaughter out of the gate of her apartment in Leshan in Sichuan province when she was hit by the tool on Friday, the reported.

The pliers had fallen from the 31-storey block, the report said.

It took surgeons three hours to remove the pliers which were embedded 15 cm into her brain, the article said.

The woman is now unconscious in intensive care.

A doctor was quoted as saying there was a high risk of infection because the pliers were dirty and the wound too deep to clean properly.

Police are investigating who dropped the pliers and a suspect in the building has been detained, the newspaper said.
