Picture of the hardships of a young ‘left-behind’ child in China goes viral on the internet
Many moved by the photograph of Yang Yang cycling a cart uphill to help her grandfather sell fruit

A photograph of a seven-year-old girl laboriously cycling up a hill helping her grandfather sell fruit has gone viral on social media in China and highlighted the hardships faced by the nation’s millions of “left-behind” children.
They are youngsters, often in poorer areas of the country, whose parents are away working in big cities and who are cared for by relatives or largely fend for themselves.
The girl pictured, called Yang Yang, has been raised by her grandparents in a county on the outskirts of Chongqing .
Her father has left home and her parents divorced when she was only three, according to the Chongqing Morning Post.
The young girl takes a bus to school by herself and walks half an hour to get home to save money. After she does her homework, she helps her grandparents weigh up fruit, calculate the price and collect cash at their stall.
