Police in the city of Suining have seized a modified and unregistered minivan that was being used to transport two cows.

The cows and four human passengers were travelling in a refitted van, on which the insurance and registration had expired, the People’s Daily reported.

The van was noticed by police in Anju district, in Anda Lu, on Tuesday.

The cows were standing at the back of the van, from which the seats and windows had been removed, while the people sat in the front row. The driver, a local farmer, had sold the cows to his passengers and was transporting them to their home.

The van had not received its annual check for this year and neither the insurance nor compulsory liability insurance had been paid.

The police escorted the van to its destination, where the cows were unloaded, before taking the vehicle into their possession. The driver could claim the van back after completing required formalities and paying the appropriate penalties, the police said.
