A 40-year-old woman is expected to regain much of her eyesight after successful cornea transplant surgery on Wednesday, the Chongqing Morning Post reports.

Doctors at the Chongqing Municipal People’s Hospital used the cornea from a pig to restore the woman’s vision.

Her eyesight was originally good but deteriorated rapidly from April because of viral corneal ulceration.

The woman had a severe cold during which the whites of her eyes turned red.

She thought the redness was blood and did not pay much attention to it until her eyesight became blurred and she became especially sensitive to light.
