A man in central China who made international headlines last year by stringing along 17 girlfriends at the same time has again fallen afoul of an irate love, Changsha newspaper Xiaoxiang Chen Bao reports.

A woman surnamed Liu from Changsha, Hunan province, said she was tricked out of 20,000 yuan (HK$23,000) by Yuan Zhengyi, who was exposed last year for also taking money from his many girlfriends, the report said.

The two met around May this year after Liu posted a dating profile on WeChat and met Yuan, who claimed to be a millionaire. Once they were dating, he started to borrow money from her.

Her suspicions when aroused when Yuan declined to meet her parents. An online search brought up stories on last year’s playboy, and Liu noted he looked like her boyfriend.

“He told me he had 41 girlfriends before,” Liu told the newspaper. “But who has not been in love? I like men who decide to focus on one person after having played around enough.”
