Chinese woman passenger killed as fire engulfs bus in Shenzhen

One woman passenger has died after a fire started on a Chinese public bus early on Thursday morning in northern Shenzhen, local police report.

The victim had been travelling in the back of the number 612 bus, which was quickly engulfed in flames at about 7am as it travelled on Longguanxi Road in the city’s Longhua New District.

No one else was injured in the blaze.

The fire was put out at 7.22am, according to a report posted on the webpage of Shenzhen police’s official Weibo account.

The report said the body of the woman, whose identity was unknown, was discovered in the aisle at the back of the bus.

Police have detained the bus driver for questioning.

One possible cause of the fire could be that passengers sometimes carried flammable items aboard, the news website Sznews.com reported.
