Man was among spectators watching the annual tidal bore on the Qiantang River in Zhejiang province

A man survived after he was knocked unconscious by a huge tidal bore that surged down a river in eastern China, according to a newspaper.
The man had come to see the huge waves that are created each year by tides on the Qiantang River in Zhejiang province, the Qianjiang Evening News reported.
The man, whose full name was not given, was knocked unconscious by the wave and pushed up to five metres by the surging water before he was rescued by a police officer, the article said. It did not say how long he was in the water.
The huge tidal bore on the Qiantang is famous in China and usually occurs during the eighth month in the Chinese lunar calendar.
“I was trying to get away when they were yelling ‘the wave is coming’, but I was immediately hit by the strong wave and fainted,” the man was quoted as saying.
