Chinese boy, 10, has stomach pumped after school bullies force him to eat pencil leads
A 10-year-old Chinese boy was forced to swallow pencil leads while being bullied by two older girls at his school, mainland media reports.
Liu Xinze, a third-grade student at Daqing Petrochemical No 4 Elementary School, in Daqing, Heilongjiang province, later felt dizzy and unwell while eating dinner, local newspaper Modern Evening News reported.
He rushed to the toilet where he threw up pieces of the lead – actually made of graphite – which led his parents to immediately send him to hospital.
Doctors found several other pencil leads inside Liu’s stomach, which had turned his gastric fluids black.
It took the hospital three hours to clean out Liu’s stomach, the report said.
However, Liu was not poisoned because the pencil leads did not contain any actual lead.
When asked why he had eaten the pencil leads, Liu initially said he had been hungry.
Later he admitted that two older fifth-grade girls, who had been bullying him at school for a while, told him that they would stop picking on him if he swallowed a handful of pencil leads, the report said.
If he refused, they told him they would continue to bully him, it said.
Liu’s parents have reported the incident to the police, who are now investigating.
