A man in eastern China tried to bring his puppy onto the train by hiding the animal inside a fast-food container used for selling fried chicken, mainland media reports.

The man, surnamed Chen, tried to pass through a security check-in gate at the railway station in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, with his three-month-old pet dog curled up inside a KFC “bucket”, the Wenzhou Metropolis Daily reported.

Chen, who was in his 20s, wanted to take the animal with him when he left to travel to his hometown on October 1 at the start of the seven-day National Day holiday.

When stopped by the police, Chen refused to open the lid of the container, claiming it contained only food, according to the report.
