Chinese middle school orders pupils to ask for permission each time they go to the toilet
Yang Zheng School, in Guizhou province, told children they must carry a ‘toilet pass’ or face having demerits recorded on their school reports

A middle school in a southwestern Chinese city in Guizhou province ordered pupils to carry a “toilet pass” – a red square plastic plate with the message, “permit to go to the toilet” – whenever they used the toilet or face punishment, mainland media reported.
However, the move by Yang Zheng School, in Qingzhen, close to the provincial capital, Guiyang, sparked online protests and the local education authority ordered the school to halt the practice, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.
The school said it had introduced the toilet passes – one pass for each class – on November 28.
Children wishing to use the toilet had to ask for the toilet pass and take it with them when using the toilet during school hours or evening class.
