‘Homesick’ US-born panda twins pick up local dialect after adapting to new life in China
Mei Lun and Mei Huan preferred American food and would only respond to commands in English when they first arrived in Sichuan province, according to media reports

A pair of US-born giant panda twins have finally adapted to the local language and food after a month in China, according to Chinese media reports.
The three-year-old pandas are now said to be able to understand basic commands in the local Sichuan province dialect and have fallen in love with the local food in Chengdu, the West China City Daily reported.
Mei Lun and Mei Huan were born at Zoo Atlanta, but were moved to a panda research centre in Chengdu a month ago as part of an exchange agreement.
They struggled to understand keepers’ Sichuan dialect and would only respond to English commands such as “come here” when they first arrived, according to earlier reports in the Chinese media.
One keeper was quoted as saying that Mei Huan, the younger sister, now favoured Chinese steamed corn bread to American starch biscuits.
