Selfless Chinese mother of seven worked until she was 90 to provide for three mentally disabled sons

A Chinese mother of seven children continued to work on a farm until she was 90 to ensure her three mentally disabled sons would be provided for when she died, mainland media reported.

She also refused to leave her home village, except for when she had to go into hospital, to ensure she was always there to care for them, Legal Evening News reported.

By the time Meng Axiang finally died in July, aged 92 – two months after one of her disabled sons – she had saved up three barrels of rice, weighing nearly 1,000 jin (500kg), plus a large store of corn and rapeseed, three chickens and one cow for her sons.

Meng, from Tongshan county, Hubei province, who had married her cousin when she was just 14, gave birth to three daughters and four sons - three of whom were born mentally disabled, the report said

She was so worried about ensuring that he sons would have enough food to live on after her death that she worked tirelessly as a farm labourer and saving her food over many years.
