The survival of a tiny Chinese baby prematurely born and the size of a human palm has been hailed as a miracle by doctors, mainland media reported.
The baby girl weighing 950 grams was born in Guizhou province in southwest China on December 3, the Guiyang Evening News reported.
“She weighs less than two bottles of water,” her doctor at a hospital in Dejiang county was quoted as saying.
“She was born the smallest baby in Guizhou’s medical history,” the doctor added.

The World Health Organisation defines low birthweight among babies as less than 2.5kg.
Physicians in the hospital’s obstetrics department said the girl’s skin was red and she was short of breath and creating a lot of saliva after she was born.
The baby had to undergo emergency treatment including clearing her airways, stimulating her heartbeat and supporting her breathing in order to survive. She was later placed in an incubator in the early weeks after her birth, the report said.

The baby was able to drink milk from a bottle instead of a tube for the first time last month.
She has now been allowed home, weighing 1.8kg.
The world record for the smallest baby surviving at birth was a girl born at a hospital in Witten in Germany who weighed 229 grams.
