Beijing man wins 260,000 yuan compensation over rush-hour subway accident that left him paralysed

A man who became paralysed after he was injured trying to squeeze onto a crowded train during rush hour has won 260,000 yuan (HK$293,000, US$37,700) compensation from the Beijing subway, Chinese media reported.
A district court ruled on Tuesday that the Beijing Metro was partly responsible for the incident that took place in January 2014, the Legal Evening News reported.
The 55-year-old man had been pushed forward by the surging crowd on the subway platform at Line 5’s Tiantongyuanbei station when the accident occurred.
The man, who was not named, hit the train door as he fell.
He lost consciousness, but did not receive medical aid until after the train had travelled another three stops, the report said.
He sustained a spinal injury from the fall, which left him paralysed.
