Man suffers injuries to buttocks after becoming trapped in moving machinery

A man in Fuyang, Anhui province, has been hospitalised after an escalator accident in a shopping mall on Sunday, in which he suffered serious injuries to his buttocks.

A photo taken by a witness showed him caught between a downward -moving step and a floor panel, , news portal reported.

Blood could be seen on the man’s white pants, and his cries could be heard throughout the mall, witnesses said. The man said he missed a step at the end of his descent and accidentally fell into a seated position on the escalator.

It took police, firefighters and lift maintenance workers a considerable amount of effort to free the man, the report said.

“Man-eating” escalators have been the cause of many injuries and even deaths in public areas on the mainland in recent years.

One of the most disturbing accidents happened at a shopping mall in Jingzhou, Hubei province, in 2015, when a woman and her three-year old son stepped on a loose panel at the top of an escalator that gave way. The young mother managed to push her son to safety, but she fell into the machinery’s gears and was killed.
