‘Don’t blame the bears’: another tourist risks life and limb at a Chinese safari park
Staff at a beleaguered Chinese safari park had to intervene to ensure the safety of one of its visitors when a tourist stood up through an open car sunroof to get a better view, according to local media reports.
The tourist at Beijing’s Badaling Wildlife World was photographed by another visitor with his upper body above the car’s roof on a road in the nature reserve, state-run news website Huanqiu.com reported on Monday.
Near the vehicle is a sign warning visitors not to open the windows of their cars.
The park is near the Great Wall and offers visitors a close encounter with wild animals such as tigers, lions, bears and monkeys.
The date of the incident was not specified but the report comes a year after a woman was fatally mauled tigers at the park.
And just last week, photos emerged of another group of visitors appearing to feed a park bear through an open car window.
The report quoted a park employee as saying he hoped visitors could learn from past incidents.
“The park will keep an eye on the behaviour of the tourists because there are many tourists in the park on weekends,” the employee said.
Online commenters took aim at the visitors.
“Don’t blame the bears if you want to die,” one wrote.
Another commenter said: “I just wonder why there are still many tourists risking danger to feed animals given that people have been killed in the past doing such things.”
