Three Chinese martial artists wow crowds with choreographed fight worthy of Hollywood
Performance during national student tournament proves a big hit with live audience and on social media
Visitors to a martial arts competition in central China were treated to a choreographed display of strength, grace and athleticism that would not have looked out of place in a Hollywood blockbuster starring Jason Statham or Jackie Chan.
Footage of the performance appeared on news website Pearvideo.com on Monday and soon became a huge hit on social media.
Although the clip does not identify the three young male performers, the choreographed routine sees two combatants dressed in blue taking on a lone adversary in red in a frenetic contest filled with flying kicks and precision punches.
The “fight”, which lasts about a minute, appears to end in victory for the blue team, although all three men finish in a heap on the floor. The performers then get back to their feet and take their bows to rapturous applause.
A report by local newspaper Henan Daily said the show was staged as part of the National University Students’ Martial Arts Tournament, which was held in Wudi, Hunan province, from October 4-7.
The event was organised by the Chinese University Students’ Sports Association and featured 650 students from across the country, the report said, without elaborating.
Despite the popularity of the performance – both online and off – some social media users were unimpressed.
“This is dance, not martial arts,” an astute observer pointed out on Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter.
