More than 100 people arrested in Chinese police raids on nightlife venues
No details given of what offences the suspects were believed to have committed, but operation in Hunan province comes amid a nationwide crackdown on prostitution
More than 100 people have been arrested after raids on karaoke bars, massage parlours, saunas and other nightlife venues operating in a city in central China.
Some 113 suspects were detained during the raids on Monday in Chenzhou in Hunan province, the police said in a statement.
The statement did not say what offences the suspects were accused of committing after the raids, which also targeted hotels.
The operation, however, comes amid a nationwide crackdown on the sex trade operating under the cover of conventional nightlife venues in Chinese cities.
Four of the people held in Chenzhou were said by the police to be fugitives.
Thirty-six people suspected of drink-driving were also detained in the crackdown.
