Chinese kindergarten ‘accused of abusing children’
Police investigating allegations at nursery school in Wuhan, according to television report
A kindergarten in central China is under investigation following allegations that children in its care were physically abused, according to a television report.
The claims centre on a kindergarten in Wuhan in Hubei province, Hunan Broadcasting System reported.
The allegations came to light after a grandparent found bruises on the leg of a young girl while she was having a bath. The girl claimed that a teacher had assaulted her, including pulling at her mouth and slapping her ears.
The girl said other children had been abused. Her mother made inquiries and 15 other children claimed to have been assaulted, the report said.
Parents contacted the police on Monday and surveillance footage at the kindergarten, which was not named in the report, showed a teacher dragging and pushing a child.
One teacher has been detained by the police during their investigation.
The case comes a week after a childcare centre in Shanghai was shut down after staff were caught on camera physically abusing their charges.
The centre cared for children under the age of three whose parents work at the travel agent Ctrip.
Video footage showed one member of staff pushing over a girl, causing her to bang her head on the corner of a table.
In another incident, a boy was forced to eat what his parents claimed was mustard.
Ctrip said in a statement it had arranged for the children to have physical check-ups and psychological evaluations. Some had showed symptoms of stress.
Three teachers have been detained, and a police investigation is ongoing, according to media reports.
