Missing Chinese schoolgirl rescued after 11-day ordeal

A middle school pupil missing for 11 days was found alive in a ditch in eastern China, a Chinese newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The girl, whose surname is Yuan, was found by Red Cross Blue Sky Rescue in Fengcheng, Jiangxi province, according to Jiangnan Metropolis Daily.

Yuan, who was trapped for four days and survived by drinking ditchwater, was admitted to hospital.

A pupil at Taosha Middle School, Yuan was reported missing when she did not return home from school on November 20. Teachers organised a search party but decided to call Blue Sky Rescue after their efforts failed.

No reason was given for why Yuan went missing.
