Chinese couple and policemen burnt in domestic dispute

Two policemen and a couple sustained injuries in a fire during a domestic quarrel at their home in eastern China, mainland media reported on Wednesday.

The officers were investigating a complaint on Saturday evening about an argument between a married couple in a flat in Ganzhou, Jiangxi province, when they smelled a gas leak, Shanghai-based news website Thepaper.cn reported.

Video footage from Ganzhou police shows one of the policemen asking the couple to turn off the gas valve in the kitchen, but a fire breaks out when the wife holds up a lighter.

All four were hurt in the incident, and one of the policemen, who sustained second-degree burns, might require skin grafts, the report said.

His hands, legs and head were seen bandaged in the video. The other police officer escaped with minor injuries. No details were given about the extent of the couple’s injuries.
