A suspected drink-driver who tried to get his father to take the blame for a car crash in eastern China was caught out flashing a V for Victory sign on a surveillance camera just before impact, according to mainland media reports.

The 30-year-old driver, identified only by his surname Wen, called his father and asked him to go to the crash scene in Jurong, Jiangsu province, on the night of February 19, the Yangtse Evening Post reported.

The father arrived before the police, who then breath tested the man and his son.

The son fled the scene and the father told the police that he had been behind the wheel at the time of the crash, the report said.
