Irate Chinese train traveller leaps security barrier and lands behind bars
Late passenger tries to make up for lost time only to be banned from rail network for six months
A man running late for a train in western China has been banned from the national rail network for six months for trying to bypass security checks.
The unnamed man missed the boarding time for his train from Yangling South station in Shaanxi province to Lanzhou in Gansu province and decided to leap over guard rails rather than change his ticket on Tuesday afternoon, news portal Cnwest.com reported.
Surveillance footage shows three railway employees trying to stop the man getting on the train.
The report said one of the employees was shoved to the ground before police intervened and restrained the man.
Under questioning, the man initially refused to cooperate and abused officers before calming down after half an hour and admitting he was in the wrong, the report said.
He was ordered to spend a week in detention and became the first person in the province to be blacklisted from all trains for six months under a controversial credit system that came into effect on May 1.
The system bans travellers for offences such as spreading false information, causing trouble on flights and smoking on trains.
