Children among 11 hurt in latest knife attack in China

A 33-year-old man has been detained in connection with a knife attack in east China on Thursday morning that left 11 people, some of them schoolchildren, wounded.

The incident happened just after 7am in the Jizhou district of Jian, Jiangsu province, police said in a statement posted on Weibo, China’s Twitter-like platform.

The suspect, identified as resident Guo Kaibin, was subdued by police and passers-by, it said.

The statement did not elaborate on the attack but said children and auxiliary police officers were among those hurt.

They were taken to hospital for treatment but their wounds were not life-threatening, it said.
