Chinese blood mule, 12, caught trying to smuggle 142 samples into Hong Kong for sex testing
- Youngster apprehended at Shenzhen port with more than 1.4 litres of blood from expectant mothers in her backpack
- Samples had papers requesting DNA tests to show if fetuses were male or female

A 12-year-old girl was stopped at a customs checkpoint in southern China recently trying to smuggle a backpack full of blood samples from pregnant women into Hong Kong, most likely for gender testing, officials said.
The incident happened on February 23 at Luohu Port in Shenzhen, and footage of it was shown by local broadcaster Guangdong Television on Wednesday.
Customs officials at the port said in a statement that they became suspicious when they saw the unaccompanied child carrying such a heavy bag.
“This little kid’s bag was very full, it felt as if it was going to burst. So we took her aside and asked her to put it through the X-ray machine,” a customs officer surnamed Xie was quoted as saying.
The scan showed the bag contained 142 tubes, each containing about 10 millilitres of blood, or about 1.4 litres (three pints) in total, the statement said.
