Police hunt for motorist after attack on child in China
- Scooter driver floors boy with a kick after passenger is struck by ball
- Victim says attacker warned: “Next time I see you, I will hit you again.”
Police in eastern China are looking for a scooter driver who attacked a boy after the child’s soccer ball hit the motorist’s passenger, Chinese media reported.
The boy was playing with friends at a housing estate in Huaian, Jiangsu province, on Sunday when he kicked the ball and it hit the passenger on the arm, according to security camera footage.
In the footage – published on the Weibo microblogging platform – the scooter driver then stops the vehicle and walks to the boy, hitting the child in the stomach and flooring him with a flying kick.
The couple then drive away as the boy picks himself up and retrieves his ball. He told the Jiangsu News website on Monday that the attacker warned him: “Next time I see you, I will hit you again.”
The identities of the boy and the man were not made public, and police said they were looking for the suspect.
“The child’s condition should cause no major problems,” video news website Beijing Time quoted an officer as saying on Monday.
However, Jiangsu News said that the boy was being monitored by doctors after he complained of stomach pain.

Reaction to video of the incident, which went viral on Chinese social media on Tuesday, was scathing.
“The child who kicked the ball should have had his mother supervising him, but the giant baby who kicked the child should have been under supervision even more,” one top-rated comment on Weibo said.
