Most local infections on mainland China were in the far western region of Xinjiang, which had a spike of 89 cases. About half the cases were identified as asymptomatic infections, the commission said.

The new cases brought the total number of infections in China to 84,060, with 4,634 deaths.
Other Asian cities have also reported more cases. South Korea also saw a rise in coronavirus infections with 48 new cases.
In the past two weeks, the country reported an average of 20 new local cases every day, with 15 of those in the Seoul metropolitan area. The novel virus has infected 14,251 people and killed 300 in the country.
