Cityseen | Young imaginations run riot designing furniture for charity
Actress Sandra Ng Kwan-yue decided to free her daughter, Jillian Chan, from the usual round of summer school classes. Instead, Ng has been hanging out with her daughter for the past two months - which she said was more exhausting than shooting a movie - to let Jillian have some fun before she starts Primary One next month.
However, she did ask Jillian to work on one project to design furniture for McDonald's "I'm Amazing" campaign, which raises money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Jillian designed a bright yellow table with a burger drawing on the top and legs protected by burger-shaped wraps. The four matching chairs come with cushions shaped like French fries.
Her work was among 24 sets of furniture created by junior designers that included a colourful table designed by actor Julian Cheung Chi-lam's son, Morton, which were auctioned off last week. Ng and Cheung were at MegaBox in Kowloon Bay on Thursday to see their children's work being auctioned. DJ Sammy Leung Chi-kin was the auctioneer.
The furniture was displayed in the mall's McDonald's restaurant, which doubled as a pop-up store for patrons to view the pieces.
The auction raised more than HK$400,000 for the charity, which is dedicated to helping seriously ill children.
