Couple convicted of indecent assault for using vibrator on mentally disabled girl

A couple who molested their 13-year-old daughter, on one occasion using a vibrator, were yesterday convicted of indecent assault.

The unemployed father, 55, and mother, 42, were each found guilty by the District Court of two counts of indecent assault and one count of indecent conduct towards a child under 16 .

They had pleaded not guilty. They were not named in court to protect the girl's identity.

The mentally disabled victim, now 14, testified as a witness.

The court heard earlier that the girl, who had been under the care of Po Leung Kuk since birth, was handed back to the parents in September last year after she repeatedly stripped to her underwear and breached rules. The assaults took place not long after.

The two touched the girl inappropriately and in one incident used a vibrator on her, the court heard. The assaults came to light when the girl told a social worker.

Despite claims by the pair that their daughter was trying to frame them because she did not want to live with them, Deputy Judge Pang Chung-ping found the girl to be honest and reliable.

"She provided detailed descriptions of what had happened and her accounts do not appear to be fabricated," the judge said.

Wong Po-wing, the couple's lawyer, said after the verdict that the defendants suffered from depression. They had three children - the victim, another daughter, 15, and a son, 13 - who were all under the care of social services.

The judge adjourned the case to today for sentencing and the pair were remanded in custody.
