Big names in the travel retail industry put on their finest tuxedos and ball gowns, and headed to Hotel Icon for The Moodie Report's 10th anniversary ball, to celebrate the industry's top information service, and share some of their success with the less fortunate. Guests at the ball on Friday enjoyed cocktails provided by Moët Hennessy, played table games, took part in silent and live auctions put on by Christie's and enjoyed a performance by celebrity harpist Claire Jones, accompanied by the Hong Kong Children Chinese Orchestra. Proceeds raised by the ball went to two charities: The Moodie Report Foundation, dedicated to raising money for cancer research and other illnesses; and the travel retail industry charity, Hand in Hand for Haiti. Martin Moodie, the report's founder and chairman, explained why the foundation was so significant to him: "Two years ago to this day, I was operated on for stomach cancer, very aggressive and advanced stomach cancer. But I was one of the lucky ones. I lived to tell the tale. I had fantastic medical treatment, which was the result of research and trial, research that wouldn't have come about without private funding. So my take on the whole experience was that I needed to give back, to raise more funds and try and prevent this damned disease."
