Three people were injured when a heavy truck went out of control and rammed into a lamp post, which fell and struck a second truck, police said on Monday.

The driver was trying to change lanes on a curve near Mei Foo when the accident happened around 10.15am on Monday, said Senior Inspector Ng Chun-piu.

The truck, carrying a shipping container loaded with over 15 tonnes of cloth, was travelling westbound in Ching Cheung Road.

It rammed into a road divider, hitting two lamp posts. One of the posts fell and hit a truck travelling in the opposition lane, injuring its driver and a passenger.

The container truck driver was trapped in his cabin for an hour after the crash. He was unconscious when firemen pulled him out and sent him to hospital.
