Eason Chan and Hilary Tsui deny drug rumours

Singer Eason Chan complains of intimidation after wife caught in storm over restaurant video

Canto-pop singer Eason Chan Yik-shun and wife Hilary Tsui Ho-ying have denied she is a drug abuser, amid claims a video was shot showing celebrity drug-taking at a restaurant.

Their denial followed reports that drugs were taken at a dinner 14 months ago attended by Tsui and friends at the restaurant in Wan Chai run by businessman Kenny Wee Ho, husband of Suki Chui Shuk-man, a 2006 Miss Hong Kong contestant.

Chan's lawyer sought to file a complaint of criminal intimidation in connection with the affair.

"Tsui Ho-ying has never taken part in any drug meal … She did not take any drugs or hug and kiss anyone during the dinner," the couple said yesterday. At a press conference attended by her husband and his manager, Tsui said she was innocent.

Tsui said she was not being evasive in not speaking out before. "I wasn't evading … I was only unwilling to respond to untruthful reports. That doesn't mean I have done the [alleged] acts."

Eason Chan said neither of them knew Wee.

Rumours snowballed after Tsui's private posting of a headshot of Wee on photo-sharing site Instagram was shared - and thus publicised - by another celebrity, Edison Chen Koon-hei, local media reported.

Chan's lawyer went to Wan Chai police station yesterday to file a complaint that someone was attempting to criminally intimidate his client with a "so-called video clip". The lawyer also complained that Tsui and a female friend had been overcharged at the dinner.

Last night police said the lawyer had sought to provide information about alleged criminal intimidation at a restaurant in Wan Chai which was first reported by Wee in October last year. Police told the lawyer the subjects of the complaint should approach the force themselves.

A police spokeswoman said Wan Chai district's anti-triad squad was investigating.

On Wednesday night, Wee called police, claiming he was slapped by actor-director-producer Eric Tsang Chi-wai in a dispute during a wedding party at the Marriott Hotel in Admiralty.

A police officer said Wee had drunk heavily at the party. Police classified it as alleged assault but no one has been arrested.
