Twelve people were trapped inside the Space Mountain amusement ride at Hong Kong Disneyland for 45 minutes around 6pm yesterday. A spokeswoman said that a tourist did not fasten the seatbelt and stood up during the ride. The staff halted the ride as a safety measure. Twelve people on a cart behind it were trapped for 45 minutes before firemen escorted them to safety.
C. Y. to brief leaders while in Beijing
Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying is slated to meet state leaders on his maiden three-day duty visit to Beijing on Thursday, his office has confirmed. The office's announcement yesterday came after the media first reported it. "Mr Leung will brief the state leaders on the latest economic, social and political developments in Hong Kong. He will also meet Hong Kong people who work and do business in Beijing," the office said in a statement. A person familiar with the trip said Leung would meet President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao and Xi Jinping.
The sound broadcasting licence issued to the troubled Digital Broadcasting Corporation was suspended by the Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA) for 30 days yesterday, due to disruptions and the cessation of its service from October 21 onwards. It is the most serious sanction the regulator can impose. The OFCA criticised the corporation for failing to fulfil its obligation as it had broadcast only music and repeats since October due to a shareholders' dispute. The authority will consider an alternative sanction if DBC can resume proper service within the suspension period.
