Three Correctional Services officers at Stanley Prison were injured when they were allegedly attacked by a prisoner. A department spokesman said the 34-year-old man, serving life imprisonment for murder, punched the face of an officer interviewing him at about 1.30pm. Two other officers tried to stop him immediately but were strongly resisted. The officers finally subdued him with pepper spray. All three officers and the prisoner were treated at the prison's hospital. Two of the officers and the inmate were later transferred to a public hospital for further examination.

Another driving instructor of the School of Motoring who had gone on hunger strike since Monday in protest against his "unfair" dismissal was taken to hospital. Steven Lin Kwok, 59, passed out during a meeting with Commissioner for Transport Ingrid Yeung Ho Poi-yan yesterday afternoon. He regained consciousness in Ruttonjee Hospital in Wan Chai. Lin joined the strike to support two sacked colleagues, Ho Tak-ming, 50, and Kevin Ma Wai-hung, 51, who believed they were let go because they had been organising a union. Ho was taken to hospital on Wednesday, having quit the strike. Ma also stopped striking and returned home yesterday, saying he would resume the strike later.
